You know... I think somebody should create an Atari 2600 Tournament for play after our HARP Championship. I bet we'll have enough players to give it a go for a four week extravaganza... well, maybe not, but we'll all have fun anyway. :)
Maybe something like the old MARP tournaments? Pick five to ten games at random and fight it out, so to speak? |

I've been thinking about this for a while as well. I think if we ran some light publicity on the AtariAge boards, we might be able to attract some new players to the site as well.
Also thought about doing it as a series of 'challenges', rather than a high score tournament, since that's often the kind of stupid stuff we used to do as kids. |

yeah, could be fun..
there's a lot more activity at atariage going on.
they have a lot of competitions.. but maybe it
would be good to point them here.
i think most people are actually using the real
machine though..
anyways, my challenge is to get past (or for ANYONE)
to finish the first board of jr. pac-man without dying.
been at it for 2 days now.. getting close.. but can never
quite make it....ARGHH.. the later boards are a little easier
for some reason..
later

Hey... I'm up for advertising it if you'd like. I usually don't advertise (mainly because I'd be called a spammer), but if you're comfortable with it, by all means!
Anyway, Q.T., what were you thinking about with these "challenges"? As in I challenge you to get 999,999 in Chopper Command? That type of challenge? |

Hey... do you all want to try to pull this off... say... in the August-September time frame? It's up to you all... but it'd be nice to have some more tournaments. It makes us expand our horizons, so to speak. |

Actually, I was kind of thinking of running a winter-themed tournament. There's a lot of good winter games for the Atari2600.
As for the challenges tourney, no, it would be much weirder. Sth like 'get as far as you can in Vanguard by only shooting upwards' or 'Berzerk, game 9, no firing allowed' or 'Joust-instant game over if anything hatches' |

As I mentioned in the Speccy Tour 2010 forum... if you get a top 3 finish, you will get a seed bonus in the 2011 HARP Championships.
If we get a tournament off by summer of next year, that tournament will also get a similar bonus. Again, I'm not sure what that bonus will be yet. |

Cool. Topic moved to a new Atari 2600 Tournament forum. Want to be moderator, then? |

Rolling this month? Remember this will interfere with the Speccy Tour then. But that might not be a problem. I'm just reminding you guys of it :)
Unless it will be finished before the Speccy Tour starts on 11th October? _________________ Frankie

yeah definitely don't cross the streams. We don't want to discourage players who might want to compete in both. |

Yeah... maybe it's better for after the Speccy Tour. But that's OK, because HARP Championships won't be until summertime of 2011. As for the fame and glory part... well... |
