OK - the time has come to select games for this year's HARP Championship. Here are the rules:
- You may select up to 4 games that you would like to play.
- At least 50% of those games must be games where you have not submitted a recording in regulation play. (if you submitted a game in Speccy Tour but not in regulation play, you may still select that game)
- This means, if N = games where you haven't submitted a recording and Y = the opposite... If you choose one game, 1N... two = 1N, 1Y, three = 2N, 1Y, and four = 2N, 2Y.
- All games chosen must be from different genres.
- You may change your choices until the registration deadline on May 31st.
- I will randomize the games chosen by taking the combined total of time (in hundredths of a second), stages, and score from the latest two recordings, then moduloing it by the number of games chosen. Then I will repeat the process with the next two recordings, and so forth until a sufficient number of games have been selected.

Here are my choices:
01. Mega Man 4 - to make things interesting... fastest first stage (NES, no recording, platform)
02. R.C. Pro-Am (NES, recording, racing)
03. Tetris Attack - VS Mode (SNES, recording, puzzle) (this is a clone - Panel De Pon, which is in Japanese, is the original)
04. Super Breakout - Game 5 (Atari 2600, no recording, breakout) |

01. Bokosuka Wars - Sharp X1, strategy (I'll do a special ROM version for this if it'll be chosen, 2 minutes per recording is too much to wait)*
02. Super F1 Circus Limited - Super Famicom, racing (probably a simple spot entry, like Monaco GP with the Lotus)
03. Tōkaidō Gojūsan-tsugi - Famicom, action adventure-> (not yet in the database?) -> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/T%C5%8Dkaid%C5%8D_Goj%C5%ABsan-tsugi_%28video_game%29
04. Desert Strike - Megadrive, isometric shooter
* EDIT: done, needs MESS version 0.138 (which will come out soon)

Chorensha 68k (Sharp X68000, vertical shooter)
The Fairyland Story (Sharp X68000, platform)
Cybernoid (Amstrad CPC, shooter, although clearly nothing like Chorensha)
Plotting (Amstrad CPC Plus, puzzle, will require 0.129 or earlier for decent 6845 emulation) _________________ - Barry Rodewald

Still thinking, still thinking! (sorry I am the only one who hasn't voted so far)
Question: Is a horizontal shooter (very old, with waves of enemies) considered same genre as a vertical shooter newer, with various weapons, etc? |

Never mind. I'm going to say no. I just realized that Barry did something similar. So yeah, I'll allow it. |

OK - the games have been selected by the randomizer.
You can see the results of the randomizer here: http://wiki.homeactionreplay.org/index.php?title=2010_HARP_Championships
The games chosen are:
Round 1 = Parsec - TI/99
Round 2 = Mega Man 4 - Fastest First Stage - NES
Finals Game 1 = Lightning Force - Genesis
Finals Game 2 = Tetris Attack - Vs. Mode - SNES
Too bad I won't be around for the finals most likely. Anyway, the first round begins June 2 at the infamous time of 00:00:01 GMT. Good luck to you all! It's me vs. MJS and Negative1 vs. Mahlemiut in the first round. Oh... playing against MJS on his choice... yeah, I'm toast... LOL! |
