Well, this question is going to come up sooner or later, so might as well put it in the open.

How should we classify homebrew games? Should they be part of regular competition, or clones competition, or evaluated on a case-by-case basis?

Some of them are quite interesting, some of them are little more than hacks. And some have a bazillion variations to them.

Some systems, like the 2600, have over 7000 confirmed romsets, a hefty chunk of these being homebrews...

case By case, many could be keepers, if they work and are scoreable and they are not a derivative of an existing regulation game, they should be in regulation (with the crc in the info notes).

Or maybe we just remove all the games with a negative QT upload comment from regulation play? :) Dark Cavern was not Boooring!!! :) you might have just said "This game only has one maze."

i like that system :D

anyway, you're right, i missed a couple of o's... it should have read Boooooooooring.

sadly, Dark Cavern isn't a homebrew. i own the stupid game.

IMO, it is far inferior to Berzerk (which i'm not a big fan of) or Tron-Deadly Discs (which is simple but isn't half bad)

Just don't want to scare any new comers away. "Why are these guys playing these games if they are booring, they must really be boring, i'm going back to facebook."

Lol... well, it's not like I put it in the rules:

"The difficulty switches are not used in this game. Why would they be? I mean, if you can stay awake for more than 5 minutes, that's challenge enough. Here are some notable games on the 2600 which the author of this game did not program."
