hey chaps,
Frankie has kindly been trying to get me up and running with wolfmess 154.
we have hit a hurdle and suggested I ask on here for further advice.
here are his instructions which I have followed...:
1. Download the roms here:
<NOROMLINKSHERE>
Click 425.2MB link
2. Go into your WolfMess directory and create the dirs:
roms
software
inp (if you want to create inps for submission on HARP aswell)
3. Find Amstrad CPC 464 on the left side in WolfMess. Under directory you can see that the shortcut for that machine is 'cpc464'.
4. Go into the dirs 'roms' and 'software' that you created, and create a dir called 'cpc464' in both.
5. Unpack the ROMS file you downloaded, and unzip the cpc464.zip file into WolfMess/roms/cpc464
6. Goto <NOROMLINKSHERE>
or here: <NOROMLINKSHERE>
and find the game you want to play. Many of the (UK) games setup in the Amstrad database can be found on Rom Nation.
7. Place the game zip file in the WolfMess154/software/cpc464 directory. You don't have to unzip it.
8. Right click the Amstrad emulator on the left side, and choose Audit. If the roms works, it should say Passed.
9. Choose File/Open Other Software, and then find the Amstrad game you downloaded, and want to play. It should now appear in the middle software box.
10. Double click it to play it. If you want to make an INP file to be uploaded on HARP, then choose File/Play and Record Input..., and name and place the in the 'inp' directory you created.
11. The inp file created must be in that inp directory when you want to play it back. If you want to playback choose File/Playback Input...
ok, i'm a bit confused.
5. Unpack the ROMS file you downloaded, and unzip the cpc464.zip file into WolfMess/roms/cpc464
where do I put the other thousand files? lol!
do i put them all in the roms folder, and then unzip the cpc464 alone into the roms/cpc464 dir?
ok, i have done what i think is required. i used bomb jack.
cpc464 passed the audit.
bomb jack is in the middle box. double clicked it, screen went black and stayed black.
that is as far as we got.
anyone know the solution? did I do something wrong?
thanks in advance!
cheeers.

Probably not a good idea to post links to ROM sites...
Anyway, is it running? On the CPC, the DEL key will make a beep (default key for DEL is Insert). _________________ - Barry Rodewald

the black screen is possibly the black screen of death that appeared in mame/mess 150 something. If you are getting that far the you may actually have the roms and software in the right place. You will get an error about missing files and won't see any emulation window black or other wise popup if the files are missing.
To fix the black screen only, try to switch to this video mode.

GDI will be dreadfully slow, DirectDraw may be a better option for you, if indeed it is because you have a crap Intel video chipset. _________________ - Barry Rodewald

hi chaps,
thanks for your help.
i changed to both direct draw and GDI, still get the black screen.
I then clicked file/run amstrad cpc464, still get the black screen.
i don't get any error pop up, just darkness.

ok, i did not want to wait until tomorrow for more advice, so i messed a liitle bit with it.
i fetched some bomb jack roms for the spectrum, and it works!!
maybe there is just a problem with that cpc rom?
what i cannot do is get my controller to work.
all options in controller mapping are set to keyboard as i have it in mame, went into the TAB menu and set all 3 joysticks up like i do in MAME. have not sorted it yet, though. I will fiddle some more! |

I have just played BJ on the Speccy!
woohoo!!
i never noticed the joystick choice on the title screen. works a treat.
I wonder if the other systems will be as easy to use. time will tell.
